The Bisley Spear Tip Jag is a precision cleaning attachment designed for use with rifle cleaning rods. It is made from brass and features a tapered spear-shaped tip that is slightly wider at the base and narrow at the point. This shape allows a cleaning patch to be pushed or “stabbed” onto the jag so it grips tightly and stays centred while being pulled through the barrel.

The main purpose of this design is to ensure full contact between the cleaning patch and the inside of the bore. When a patch is wrapped or pressed onto the spear tip, it expands slightly to match the barrel walls, allowing more effective removal of fouling such as powder residue, copper, and carbon build-up. This helps produce a more thorough clean compared to loose or poorly fitted patch systems.

It is threaded to attach to standard rifle cleaning rods and is usually calibre-specific, meaning different sizes exist for .17, .22, .25, .30 and other rifle calibres. Each jag is typically stamped with its size so it can be easily identified. The brass construction is important because it is softer than steel, reducing the risk of scratching or damaging the bore during repeated use.

In use, the spear tip jag is often considered a more secure and efficient patch holder compared to simple loops or slotted jags, especially for precision cleaning. It is commonly used by shooters who want consistent pressure and a more uniform cleaning result along the full length of the barrel.

  • Brass spear-shaped tip holds cleaning patches firmly for full bore contact
  • Designed for rifle calibres with size-specific threading for compatibility
  • Provides more consistent and thorough barrel cleaning compared to basic patch holders
