Bisley Snap Caps are inert training and maintenance cartridges designed to safely simulate live ammunition in shotguns or rifles. They are used primarily for dry firing practice, function testing, and easing spring tension in firing mechanisms without risking damage to the firearm. Each snap cap is shaped like a real cartridge but contains no primer, powder, or projectile.

Inside the case head, a cushioned or spring-loaded impact area is built in to absorb the strike of the firing pin. This prevents metal-on-metal contact, which can occur when a firearm is dry fired without protection. Over time, repeated dry firing on an empty chamber can potentially damage or weaken firing pins or internal components, especially in older or more delicate firearms.

Snap caps are also used for training purposes. They allow shooters to safely practice loading, unloading, cycling actions, and trigger control without live ammunition. This makes them useful for improving handling skills, testing feeding and ejection in magazine-fed firearms, and performing safety drills in a controlled environment.

They are typically calibre-specific and are designed to replicate the size and weight of real cartridges so that they behave realistically in the chamber. Some versions are reusable and can withstand repeated firing pin strikes over many cycles before needing replacement.

  • Inert dummy cartridges designed for safe dry firing without damaging the firing pin
  • Calibre-specific and shaped like real ammunition for realistic training use
  • Used for function testing, handling practice, and easing spring tension in firearms
