The Bisley Payne Galway Brass Brush is a heavy-duty shotgun cleaning brush used for deep cleaning the internal surfaces of shotgun barrels and chambers. It is part of the traditional “Payne Galway” style brushes, which are known for their tightly packed wire bristles and strong cleaning action. These brushes are designed to remove more stubborn fouling than standard wool mops or light cleaning patches.

The brush is typically made with a brass ferrule and dense phosphor bronze bristles. The bronze material is important because it is harder than soft fouling like carbon, plastic wad residue, and powder deposits, but still soft enough not to damage the steel inside the barrel when used correctly. The dense bristle arrangement ensures full 360-degree contact with the bore, giving a more aggressive and thorough clean.

It attaches to a standard UK-style shotgun cleaning rod, commonly those using Bisley or Parker-Hale threading systems. Once attached, it is pushed and pulled through the barrel to scrub away buildup. Because of its stiffness and density, it is especially effective in areas where fouling accumulates more heavily, such as chambers and tighter sections of the bore.

This type of brush is generally used during the main cleaning stage, before finishing with a mop or patch. It is not intended for delicate cleaning or final oiling, but rather for breaking down and removing hardened residue that builds up after repeated firing. Its robust design makes it a long-lasting tool, but it is best used with proper technique to avoid unnecessary wear on barrel finishes or forcing it through overly tight bores.

  • The Bisley Payne Galway brush is a dense phosphor brass brush that doesn't distort or compact in use
  • The ideal brush for removing stubborn & heavy fouling from the barrel and chambers
  • Will only suit Bisley / Parker Hale English thread shotgun cleaning rods
  • Available in 12 & 20 gauge
