The Bisley Brass Jag for shotguns is a barrel-cleaning attachment designed to hold a cleaning patch firmly while it is pushed through the bore. It screws onto a standard shotgun cleaning rod and is sized to match specific shotgun gauges such as 12, 20, or .410, ensuring a proper fit inside the barrel without excessive looseness or force.

The jag is made from solid brass, which is chosen because it is soft enough not to damage the steel inside the barrel while still being strong and durable for repeated use. It typically features a slightly tapered or serrated head design, which helps grip the cleaning patch securely. When the patch is pushed through the barrel, it expands slightly to make full contact with the internal surface, improving cleaning efficiency.

In use, the jag is part of the main cleaning process for shotguns. After applying solvent or initial brushing, a patch is attached to the jag and pushed through the barrel to remove fouling, residue, and cleaning fluid. Multiple passes are often made until the patches come out clean, indicating the barrel is properly maintained. It can also be used with lightly oiled patches to apply a protective coating inside the bore.

The brass construction ensures smooth passage through the barrel without scratching or damaging the internal finish. It is a simple but essential tool for achieving consistent contact between patch and bore, making it more effective than loose patch systems.

  • Brass jag securely holds cleaning patches for effective shotgun barrel cleaning
  • Calibre-specific fit ensures full bore contact without damaging the barrel
  • Used with cleaning rods for removing fouling and applying protective oil during maintenance
