The Bisley Brass Jag for rifles is a precision cleaning attachment designed to hold a cloth patch firmly while it is pushed through the barrel. It screws onto a standard rifle cleaning rod and is manufactured in specific calibres such as .17, .22, .243, .270, .30 and others to ensure an accurate fit inside the bore. This correct sizing is important because it allows the patch to make full contact with the internal surface of the barrel without being too tight or too loose.

The jag is made from solid brass, which is chosen because it is soft enough to avoid damaging the steel barrel while still being strong and durable enough for repeated use. The head of the jag is typically tapered or slightly serrated, allowing the cleaning patch to be pressed securely onto it. As the patch is pushed through the barrel, it expands and conforms to the bore, helping remove fouling more effectively than a loosely fitted patch.

In practice, the rifle jag is used during the main cleaning stages after solvent has been applied or after brushing. It is used to push patches through the barrel repeatedly until they come out clean, removing carbon, copper residue, and other fouling. It can also be used with lightly oiled patches to leave a protective film inside the barrel to prevent corrosion during storage.

Because of its solid construction and precise fit, the brass jag provides consistent cleaning performance and helps maintain accuracy by ensuring the barrel is properly cleaned between shooting sessions.

  • Brass jag holds cleaning patches securely for full-contact rifle barrel cleaning
  • Calibre-specific sizing ensures accurate fit and effective fouling removal
  • Used with cleaning rods for solvent cleaning and final oiling of the bore
